OTD Checklist - Am I eligible to work in Australia?

Generally, any OTD wishing to work in Australia will need to meet the following basic requirements:

• Satisfy the AMC English Language proficiency requirements - see National English Language Proficiency Policy
• Identify an appropriate job in a designated "Area of Need" within Australia 
• Apply to the relevant State/Territory Medical Board or Council for medical registration
• Apply for a visa and pass the required character, police and medical checks. See AMC National Identification Policy
• Obtain Medical Indemnity cover in Australia
• Obtain a Medicare Provider Number in Australia

Essential requirements for working at Absolute Medical ServicesPractice are:

• Recognised vocational training in general practice OR a minimum of 5 years general practice experience

Preferred qualifications and experience include:

• MRCGP or equivalent;
• Experience in A & E, paediatrics, O & G;
• A sense of humour

It is important to note that Doctors who wish to practice in Australia must first be registered with the Medical Board in the State or Territory where they intend to practice.
